Publicly Thanking the Somerset Fire Department

Recently there was a fire in the building next door to our Somerset offices.  The building was completed destroyed but, fortunately, there was no outside damage to our building. The fast and professional response by the Somerset Fire Department was the reason.

Attorney Steven Sabra, moved by the response of the fire department, was moved to write a Letter to the Editor of the Fall River Herald News and Somerset Spectator, which we’re sharing below as our way to publicly thank the Somerset Fire Department (and all fire departments) for their tireless efforts in protecting our community.

To the Editor:
I want to publicly thank and acknowledge the heroic efforts of the Somerset Fire Department in battling the fire that destroyed my neighbors business but miraculously left my office building intact as well as the surrounding properties and homes.

The fact that the Sabra & Aspden law office is still standing and operational is in no small measure due to the outstanding work of the Somerset Fire Department and all the area fire departments that responded to the three alarm blaze, including Fall River, Swansea, Dighton, Rehoboth, Berkeley, Dartmouth, Tiverton and Warren.

They protected my law office by keeping hoses on the building so that it would not catch fire. Despite the dangers of explodable materials and ammunition within the burning building and a nearby gas station, they did everything in their power to control and contain the blaze.

Somerset Fire Chief Scott Jepson can be proud of his department, particularly Deputy Chief Paul Paquette who was the commander in charge of fighting the fire. It is due to their professionalism and quick response that no one was injured in the fire for which we are all thankful. The Somerset Police Department and all the other first responders who arrived to help should also be commended for keeping the citizens and property of the Town safe.

This was a significant fire that destroyed the businesses next door and my heart goes out to them with the hope that they can someday rebuild. I hope a fire like this never again occurs in our Town, but I know that if it does, we have fire and police departments on whom we can depend to safeguard our citizens.

Very truly yours,
Attorney Steven P. Sabra
